FRED J. BENDER BURIED WEDNESDAY

ARLINGTON - Fred J. Bender, aged 83 years, passed away here on Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Schoettger, after an illness which lasted over six months.

Mr. Bender was born in Eschenbach, Germany on September 22, 1863, and came with his parents with their family of nine other children to Canada in 1880. Six years later he came to Nebraska to Madison where he engaged in farming for many years. He was married to Katherine Schmitt in 1890. After retiring from the farm, the family moved to Madison where they lived a number of years. After the death of his wife, Mrs. Bender spent some time in California and about three years ago came here to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Schoettger.

Besides his daughter here, he is survived by two sons, Carl of Eagle; and Aaron of Huntington Park, California; and five grandsons; three brothers, Alfred and Herman Bender of Kitchener, Ontario; and Carl Bender of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and one sister, Mrs. Nicholas Krotz of Kitchener, Ontario also survive. Two daughters preceded Mr. Bender in death.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of Reckmeyer & Son, and were held yesterday (Wednesday) morning at the George Schoettger home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. A. W. Clarke officiating. The remains were taken to Madison where services were conducted by Rev. Clarke in the Methodist church with burial in the Green Garden cemetery.
