JAKE H. BROSS DIED TUESDAY FOLLOWING STROKE

Old Settler, native Of County Answers Nature’s Call

Jake H. Bross, well known Blair man, died at his home on West Washington street Tuesday morning.

Jake was born in Blair in a house located on the ground where The Enterprise office is located on January 7th, 1878. He grew to manhood in this county. He was one of a family of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bross. Two sisters and one brother have preceded him in death.

In October, 1902 he was united in marriage to Fannie F. Rodman, and to them one daughter, Mrs. Francis Newell was born. He leaves to mourn him his wife, his daughter, and two grandchildren and two brothers, Frank and Arthur Bross of Blair and three sisters, Mrs. Alta Ryan and Mrs. Clyss Sylvis of Omaha and Mrs. Jennie Spiker of Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Jake was a great lover of flowers and flower lovers knew him well. He had the faculty of making his loved flowers grow and his pride in them was greatly admired by his many friends.

Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at 10 o’clock from the Campbell Mortuary, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Another old settler has gone, a native of the county and an ardent booster for his place of nativity. Born in 1872, five years after the state was admitted to statehood which marks the pioneer time, he grew up in that early period and his entire makeup spoke of that period.
