MRS. G. MENCKE BURIED TUESDAY

Mrs. Gustav Mencke died at the home of her son, Otto Mencke of Blair, on March 17, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 23 days. She was born in Germany and came to this country on May 18, 1878, and settled at Arlington. Since then she has been a resident of this county.

On May 27, 1882 she was married to Gustav Mencke, and to them fifteen children were born, six of whom preceded her in death. The husband died on July 6th, 1933.

On May 27, 1932 they celebrated their golden wedding. The affair took place at what was known as the old Germania Hall on east Washington street, Blair, and a host of old friends, relatives and neighbors gathered to wish them God speed.

She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mrs. Sophie Mathiesen of Walthill and Mrs. Gusta Ryan of Herman, and seven sons, Rudolph, Otto, Eddie, Theodore and George of Blair; Louis of Herman and Hans of Kennard; also one sister, Mrs. Dorothea Wulf of Blair and thirty grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church in Blair with Rev. A. W. Clarke of Arlington officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Funeral Held for Mrs. Gust Mencke, 79

NATIVE OF GERMANY HAD RESIDED IN THIS COUNTY FOR PAST 68 YEARS

Mrs. Minnie Mencke, 79, widow of Gust Mencke and a resident of Washington County for 68 years, died Sunday at the home of her son, Otto Mencke, 310 East State Street.

Funeral Services in charge of the Campbell Mortuary, were held at 2pm Tuesday at First Methodist Church. The Rev. A.W. Clarke of Arlington officiated. The burial was in Blair cemetery.

Minnie Goedeker was born August 26, 1866 in Hude, Hanover Province, Germany. In 1878, as a girl of 11, she came to the United States with her parents. They settled at Arlington, Nebraska. She and Gustav Mencke were married May 27, 1882. Mr. Mencke also was a native of Hanover, having come to the United States in 1872, but the two had never met in the old country.

Mr. and Mrs. Mencke were the parents of 15 children, six of whom preceded the mother in death. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary with a celebration in Blair in 1982. Mr. Mencke died the following year on July 6.

Surviving Mrs. Mencke are two daughters, Mrs. Jesse Ryan (Gusta) of Herman and Mrs. Thomas Mathiesen (Sophie) of Walthill; seven sons, Rudolph, Otto, Eddie, Theodore and George Mencke, all of Blair, Louie Mencke of Herman and Hans Mencke of Kennard, and one sister, Mrs. Claus Wulf (Dorothee) of Blair.

Two brothers, Henry and Louie Goedeker, preceded Mrs. Mencke in death several years ago.

Also surviving Mrs. Mencke are 30 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
