JAMES MEAD DIED IN CALIFORNIA FEBRUARY 22ND

Interment In Blair Cemetery Under Auspices Of Masonic Lodge

James Albin Mead was born in Blair, Nebraska on May 12, 1901. He received his early education in the Blair schools and after graduation entered the State University at Lincoln. From here he enlisted in the U. S. Navy during the first World War. He was sent to the Naval Base at Chicago and while he was in training, the Armistice was signed. Then he was sent to the Rhode Island Preparatory School for Annapolis Military Academy. Having finished this preparatory work, he entered the Academy where he remained for a year when he re-entered the Navy. He was assigned to duty in China and was stationed in the Asiatic Territory for four years. He returned home at the end of his term of enlistment by way of San Francisco.

He then located on his father’s farm near Kimball, Nebraska. He was married to Emma Hopson of Des Moines, Iowa in 1927. To this union were born four children, Elizabeth Jane, Ruth May, James Allen and Patricia Ann. He remained on the farm until his health began to fail. He developed a heart condition that made it necessary that he live below sea level; so he located on an acreage near Holtville in Imperial Valley in southern California where he was living at the time of his death on February 22nd.

It was his wish that he might be buried in the J. H. Mead lot in the Blair cemetery, so after Methodist and Masonic services in Holtville on Monday afternoon, February 25th, his wife and his brother, Paul, started with his remains for Blair. The burial service, conducted by the Masonic Lodge of Blair, will be held at the grave tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.

Besides the wife and children, there are left to mourn his loss his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. R. Mead; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hatter; two brothers, Paul J. and Charles Robert; and many other relatives and friends here and in California.
