FORMER KENNARD POSTMASTER DIED EARLY TUESDAY

Services for Mrs. Irene Jansen were held Friday, June 29, 1973, at the Grace Methodist Church of Kennard, Nebraska. Rev. John Fritzmeier officiated at the 10:00 A.M. services. Organist was Mrs. Merle Wardell and soloist was Mrs. Paul Munson.

Mrs. Jansen passed away early Tuesday, June 26, at the age of 85 years and 1 week. She had been in failing health since March of this year, and after being hospitalized she had been a resident of the Godo Shepherd Home.

All her life had been spent in Washington County. She was born June 19, 1888, to pioneer parents, James D. and Jessie Munro Vaughan, at Ft. Calhoun, youngest of four children, all having preceded her in death. She grew to womanhood there, and graduated from the Ft. Calhoun High School.

On April 24, 1912, she was married to Peter Jansen, also of the Ft. Calhoun area. After farming for several years they moved to Kennard where in 1940, she assumed the Postmastership of the Kennard Office. She retired from this position in 1955. She was a member of the Grace Methodist Church of Kennard, and a charter member of the W.S.C.S. She was also a charter member of the Ft. Atkinson Foundation.

Her husband preceded her in death, passing away in 1940. She is survived by 3 daughters: Mrs. Russell (Marjorie) Christensen, Rt. 2, Omaha; Mrs. Vernon (Naomi) Mathiesen, Blair; Mrs. Lloyd (Jessie) Stewart, Seattle, Washington; and a son, Peter Jansen of Fremont, Nebraska. There are 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The Sievers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Russell Christensen, Dean Christensen, Gary Mathiesen, Roger Mathiesen, Peter Jansen and Fred Jansen
