OLD SETTLER OF COUNTY DIED WED.

CHRISTIAN WM. STENDER PASSES. CAME FROM GERMANY IN 1890

Christian William Stender, aged 79 years, passed away Wednesday morning, February 2nd, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Bergman, of the Rose Hill vicinity.

Deceased was born in Germany, December 19, 1858, where he grew to manhood and where on April 10, 1881, he was married to Miss Charlotte Gradert.

Five children were born to them before coming to this country. The eldest son remained in Germany and still makes his home there.

The wife died three years ago and two daughters and one son preceded him in death.

Those remaining to mourn a kind and loving father are Julius and Chris, of Washington; Emil, of Kennard and Otto of Winside and the son in Germany and four daughters, Mrs. Henry Petersen, of Gravity, Iowa; Mrs. Fred Wulf, of Blair; Mrs. Gus Auch, of Bennington, and Mrs. Ben Bergman, of Rose Hill.

In his life the deceased was a kind, conscientious gentleman, scrupulously honest and the kind of man that stands for the best in life and citizenship.

Funeral services will be held next Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Community Church in Washington of which he was a member, and interment will be made in the German cemetery.
