#1-22 Jan., 1908 - The Pilot - Mary Josephine (Briggs) Riddler

After an illness of almost a year’s duration, six months of that time being bedfast, Mrs. J. S. Riddler passed away at 3:30 yesterday morning at her home on west Lincoln street. The funeral is to be held at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning, Rev. A. E. Marsh officiating. Mary Josephine Briggs was born in Oberlin, Ohio Apr. 17, 1842 and came west to Ft. Calhoun with her parents in 1856. She was married there to Mr. J. S. Riddler Feb. 13, 1858 and of that union two daughters survive, Mrs. F. W. Arndt of this city and Mrs. J. J. Cole of Florence. Mr. Riddler died almost eight years ago. Besides the two daughters, she leaves two brothers and three sisters at distant points. Mrs. Riddler was a member of the old Ft. Calhoun Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and when the local Chapter was instituted recently she joined here. She was undoubtedly one of the oldest members of this order in the state at the time of her death.

Mary J. Riddler died at her home in this city on the 21st of this month, and the funeral will be held this morning at 10 o’clock.

Deceased was born at Oberlin, Ohio April 22, 1842, and came with her parents to Ft. Calhoun in March, 1856. She was married to James S. Riddler February 13, 1858, and later moved to Blair. Two brothers and three sisters survive her, also two daughters, Mrs. J. J. Cole of Florence, Neb. and Mrs. F. W. Arndt of this city.
