#1-1 Jan., 1908 - The Pilot - Reuben Patrick

R. Patrick died very suddenly at 1 o’clock yesterday morning at his home in the southern part of the city. He had been suffering with kidney trouble for some time, but was able to be about, and did his chores Monday evening as usual. At about midnight he raised up in bed and complained of being unable to get his breath. Mrs. Patrick called S. E. Kamp, who lives near, and Ed called the doctor but within three minutes after the doctor arrived, death ensued. The funeral arrangements have not been definitely settled, but his daughter, Mrs. Killian, cannot arrive from Newport News, Va. until Friday morning, so the funeral will be held at the Congregational church at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Miss Bessie of Omaha, Mrs. C. C. Sheldon of Columbus and Mrs. R. McKelvy of Sioux city are here, and with Mrs. S. E. Kemp, the family circle will be complete when Mrs. Killian arrives. Rev. A. G. Axtell, pastor of the deceased man, will conduct the funeral service, and interment will be made under Masonic auspices. Reuben Patrick was born in Lancaster county, Pa. Dec. 23rd, 1834, and was married to Miss Elizabeth McCormick at that place in 1863. They came here about twenty one years ago and for a number of years have made their home on a small fruit farm just south of town. Mr. Patrick was a quiet man, but a man of many excellent qualities of mind and heart. He was always a good citizen and will be greatly missed not only by his family and close friends, but by the church, the lodge and by the public in general.
