#1-11 Dec., 1905 - The Pilot - Hans C. Hansen

While working at his trade of a blacksmith in his shop near Washington on Wednesday of this week, Hans C. Hansen was suddenly called to his reward, heart failure being the cause of the sudden demise. A son was at the shop with him and had gone outside of the shop to start up the power that ran the machinery in the shop so that his father could sharpen some plows he had in the shop. After getting the power in motion, the son entered the shop and was horrified to find his father lying on his back dead. The alarm was given and soon other relatives and friends gathered in the shop, and the remains removed to the house. The sad event cast a shadow over the entire community, as he was well known to all our people, and was held in very high esteem. Funeral services will be held today from his home, and interment at the German cemetery. Hans C. Hansen was born in Denmark in 1843, and was therefore 61 years old at the time of his death. He came to this country from Denmark 36 years ago, and has been a resident of Washington county for 24 years, having lived in Omaha before moving here. He leaves a wife and a number of children, among them being Hans Hansen of this place. The deceased was always a hard working man, and had acquired considerable property. Some years ago he built a blacksmith shop on his farm and was well patronized by his neighbors. He was honest in all his dealings and was respected by all who knew him.
