23 Nov., 1905 - The Blair Democrat - William Loosing

On Friday of last week Wm. Loosing, a prominent citizen of Arlington and one of our largest land owners, went into the orchard on his home place just north of town and commenced to trim some of the smaller apple trees. About 5 o’clock Mrs. Loosing went into the orchard in quest of him, and was horrified to find him under one of the trees unable to move. She immediately notified Fred Ectenkamp, who with C. L. Harrison, was working on an elevated tank that was being erected in the yard. These gentlemen hurried to the aid of Mr. Loosing, and soon had him in the house and Dr. Davies called. Upon the arrival of the doctor, it was learned that the spinal cord at the back of the neck had been injured, and that the body from the shoulders down was paralyzed. It is thought that Mr. Loosing fell from a ladder to the ground, a distance of perhaps five feet, the location of the injury indicating that he struck the ground with the back of his head and neck. He is 78 years old and has lived here for 48 years, he and Mrs. Loosing being among the very earliest settlers in this county. Death came to the relief of Mr. Loosing Saturday, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery north of Arlington.
