#1-23 Apr., 1906 - The Pilot - Marion Pease

This morning as Marion Pease attempted to board a westbound freight on the east side of the river, he missed his footing and fell in such a manner that one leg was cut off about two inches below the hip and the other just below the knee. He was brought to the hospital as soon as possible where he received all possible care. The latest report is against his recovery. The young man is seventeen years of age and had been working for the railroad company for a week and was coming home to get a release signed by his parents empowering him to transact business for himself with the company. The accident is a particularly distressing one. As we go to press, we learn that Mr. Pease died just before noon.

Marion, Son of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Pease who Live in Weimer’s Addition to Blair, Run Over by Freight Train.

ACCIDENT HAPPENS JUST EAST OF BRIDGE

Was Coming Over Home to Have Release Signed by Parents and Attempted to Board the Train.

While attempting to board a freight train about 1500 feet east of the Missouri river bridge last Monday morning, Marion Pease was thrown under the wheels, and both his limbs crushed, one close up to the hip and the other just below the knee.

The train was stopped at the bridge and backed up to where the accident happened, and the unfortunate lad carried into the caboose and brought to Blair and taken to the hospital where the doctors done what they could to dress the wounds, but the shock was too great and the boy died about noon.

It seems that young Pease, who was about 16 years old and a son of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Pease who live out in Weimerville, had been working on the section for about a week and had sent in a release that had not been properly signed. The release had been returned and young Pease attempted to board the freight train for the purpose of coming over home and having it corrected and sent back to the company.

At the time of the accident the section men with whom Pease had been working were standing near and saw the accident.

The funeral was held from the home of the bereaved parents yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, and burial book place in the Blair cemetery. Besides the parents, are left two brothers and four sisters to mourn his sudden death.
