#1-18 Apr., 1906 - The Blair Courier - Encil Brunton

Encil Brunton was in school all day Thursday, but during the evening he complained of pains in his back and hips. His mother thought it was only a sort of grip, but before morning he had developed a high fever and was out of his head. Dr. Palmer was called next day and pronounced it cerebro meningitis. This is an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and is called cerebro spinal meningitis when the spinal cord is also affected. Later Dr. Stewart was called in consultation and everything possible was done to relieve him, but he grew steadily worse and died Monday morning, having been unconscious for several hours. The funeral was held at the house of the boy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. T. Brunton, at three o’clock yesterday afternoon. Rev. F. G. Hamm officiating. Encil was fourteen years old last November, and was a boy of good, clean habits, and was always a favorite among his companions. He was Regent of the Esquires of the Round Table, an order for boys founded a year ago by Rev. A. G. Axtell of this city. Rev. Axtell called to see him Saturday and told Mrs. Brunton he did not know what he would do without Encil. He joined the Christian church during the revival meetings last winter in company with three of his brothers. The entire community join in deepest sympathy for the bereaved parents and family.
