#1-31 Oct., 1904 - The Pilot - Eliza (Butler) Richards

The funeral of Mrs. W. S. Richards took place last Friday from the M.E. church in this city, Rev. Markley officiating. Mrs. Richards, formerly Miss Eliza Butler, Cobbleskill, New York, was born February 17, 1820, and was married to H. N. Matteson in December, 1840, and together they came to Nebraska in 1867. Mr. Matteson died 1898. Mrs. Matteson married Mr. Richards, who was killed in the Herman cyclone. Mrs. Richards was the mother of nine children, five of whom are living.

#2-2 Nov., 1904 - Blair Courier - Eliza (Butler) Matteson Richards George Matteson’s mother, Mrs. W. S. Richards, died last Thursday from the effects of a paralytic stroke, and the funeral was held at the Methodist church on Friday, Rev. A. J. Markley officiating. Miss Eliza Butler was born in Cobbleskill, New York Feb. 17, 1820, and was married to H. N. Matteson in December of 1840. They came to this state in 1867 and Mr. Matteson died Feb. 12, 1893. On Jan. 1, 1898 Mrs. Matteson married Mr. Richards, who met his death in the Herman cyclone. Mrs. Richards was a devoted member of the Methodist church and was beloved by all who knew her.

#3-10 Dec., 1903 - Blair Republican - Grandma Richards

Just before going to press we learn of the death of Grandma Richards at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alex. White at Ft. Calhoun on last Monday. With her first husband, H. N. Matteson, she came to this county 37 years ago. After his death she married postmaster Richards who lost his life in the Herman cyclone. She was past 82 years of age. She leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her demise. Mrs. Ostrander, Mrs. W. C. Hastings and George Matteson of this city are among them.
