James E. Baxter died at his home in Dexterville Friday, July 24, 5 p.m., of complicated diseases of liver and stomach at the age of 75 years. Mr. Baxter was born in North Carolina in 1828, and lived there until the age of 21 years, then came north to Indiana, living there 13 years, then came to Nebraska in 1868 and has lived here ever since. The deceased leaves a wife and six children, Mrs. Phil Slaughter of Alexandria, Ind., whose husband is in the real estate business; U. E. Baxter, a well-to-do farmer of Washington county; H. A. Baxter, engaged in the farming and cattle raising business; T. F. Baxter, a wealthy cattleman of Brown Co., Neb.; Mrs. Hettie Wulff of Los Angeles, Cal., whose husband is in the implement business; and Miss Edna Baxter, cashier and bookkeeper of wholesale house in Omaha. Mr. Baxter was a well known and highly respected citizen, having lived in this county so long, and leaves a host of sympathizing friends to help mourn his loss.

The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Larkin, and interment in Blair cemetery.

James E. Baxter died at his home in Dexterville Friday afternoon at the age of 75 years, of liver and stomach trouble. Deceased was born in North Carolina, and reared to the age of 21 years. He came to Nebraska in 1867 and has lived here ever since. He leaves a wife and six children living, and four dead. The living are Mrs. Phil Slaughter of Alexandria, Ind.; Edward Baxter of Blair; Frank Baxter of Johnstown, Neb.; Alvin Baxter of Maxwell, Neb.; Mrs. Hettie Wulff of Los Angeles, Cal.; and Mrs. Edna Gurney of Omaha. Rev. Larkin officiated at the funeral which was held last Sunday afternoon at the family residence. Interment was made in Blair cemetery.
