#1-26 Mar., 1903 - Blair Republican - Mrs. Albert T. Schlief

After a very brief illness, Mrs. Albert T. Schlief of So. Blair died from a sudden attack of hemorrhage of the lungs on Saturday morning of last week leaving a disconsolate husband and three bright little children. It was a sudden breaking up of a happy, humble home, a sad rending of the strong ties of wife and motherhood, calling forth great sympathy from all in this community which as shown in a substantial manner in the hour of sorrow and need. Messrs. H. H. Reed and Frank Bross circulated a paper and in a short time a subscription of $110 was made to meet necessary expenses. Rev. J. W. Larkin held a short service at the residence and in the afternoon, accompanied the husband and two eldest children on the sad mission to bury his wife at her former home in Creston, Platte county, Nebraska. On Monday Rev. Larkin conducted the service at the above town, assisted by the pastor, Rev. St. Louis. Mrs. Schlief was a member of Blair Congregational church.

Mrs. A. F. Schlief had a very severe internal hemorrhage of the lungs last Thursday evening, and grew gradually weaker until death came early Saturday morning. A short funeral service was held at 2:15 that same day at the house, and the body was taken to Creston, Neb., her old home, on the afternoon train, accompanied by her cousin, brother, husband and Rev. J. W. Larkin. Another service was held in the Methodist church in Creston on Monday by Rev. Larkin and the local pastor, Rev. Mr. St. Louis. Miss Rowena Morris was born in Wyoming, Wis. Jan. 22, 1876, and came to Creston with her parents in childhood. She was married to Mr. Albert F. Schlief at Sioux Falls, S.D. July 2, 1896, and to them were born three children who are now left motherless. Mr. and Mrs. Schlief moved here last fall a year ago and he was employed in Gus Scheffler’s harness shop. The death of a young mother is always sad, and Mr. Schlief’s grief was almost greater than he could bear. The sympathy of the entire community was called out in an unusual degree for the case seemed an unusually sad one. Mrs. Schlief was a member of the Congregational church here and her joyousness and services will be greatly missed by all.

The deceased was born Jan. 22, 1876 at Wyoming, Wisconsin, came to Creston when a child and was married to Mr. Schlief at Sioux, South Dakota July 2, 1896. During their residence in this city they made many friends and all sympathize deeply with the bereaved husband in his sudden and great sorrow.
