Josephine (Stevens) Curry

#1-19 Feb., 1903 - Blair Republican - Josephine Stevens Curry

Mrs. Josephine Stevens Curry was born at Shilo, Ohio March 4, 1846. She grew to womanhood in Champaign, Ill., where she was married to Mr. Curry on Nov. 10, 1868. In early youth Mrs. Curry became a Christian and for the balance of her life she walked consistency in the Christian way. At the time of her death she was a member of the Presbyterian church in York, Nebr. For several years she was an invalid and a constant sufferer but she was always brave and cheerful. She was the landlady of the Clifton Hotel where she died Wednesday morning, Feb. 4 at 1:45 o’clock. The funeral service was held in the parlor of the hotel on Thursday morning at 9:30 and was conducted by the Rev. Canon Marsh of the Episcopal church, assisted by Rev. J. Wallace Larkin of the Congregational church. Mrs. Curry’s body was taken to Champaign, Ill. for burial, and was accompanied by her husband and their adopted daughter, Miss Frances Stevens, both of whom have the sympathy of the community in their affliction.

#2-5 Feb., 1903 - Blair Courier - Mrs. J. F. Currie

Mrs. J. F. Currie died at the Clifton hotel at 1:45 yesterday morning of consumption of the bowels. Mr. Currie said she had not been really well since she had the grip about seven years ago, and he came to Nebraska for her health. She improved some, gaining about thirty pounds in weight, but when the above disease set in she was unable to throw it off. Mr. Currie and Miss Frances Stevens left with the body at 10:32 today for deceased’s old home at Champaign, Ill. where interment will take place. She was born near Cincinnati, Ohio March 4, 1846, and was married to Mr. Currie Nov 10th, 1868.

#3 9 Feb., 1903 - The Pilot - Mrs. J. F. Currie

Mrs. J. F. Currie, after an illness of eleven days, died at the Clifton hotel last Wednesday morning from consumption of the bowels. Mrs. Currie suffered an attack of the grippe several years ago and has not enjoyed health since. Several years ago the family came to Nebraska, but the climate failed to help her and she has declined steadily since. Mr. Currie and Miss Francis Stevens accompanied the body back to the old home in Champaign, Illinois where the body was laid to rest. Mrs. Currie was a native of Ohio and married Mr. Currie Nov. 10, 1868. The family have many warm friends whose sympathy go out to them in their bereavement.

#4 Note: there are two spellings. There are over 3500 Curry's buried in Illinois and just under 800 Curries. In the Blair newspapers the earlier ones had Currie and the later one had Curry
