#1-4 May, 1904 - The Pilot - Katie M. Schmidt

The sad news of the death of the 11 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schmidt of Calhoun reached Blair Monday noon. She was sick less than two days, but on Sunday morning was taken worse with what seemed to be brain fever, and died the same evening. The funeral was held from the house on Monday afternoon where a large number of friends paid their last respects to the memory of the little girl, and tendered words of sympathy to the bereaved parents.

#2-12 May, 1904 - Blair Republican - Katie Schmidt

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schmidt and family mourn the death of their daughter and sister, Katie, age eleven, after an illness of very short duration. In fact, the symptoms were nothing alarming till Sunday morning when her brain was attacked causing death before midnight. She was an exceptionally bright, energetic, happy child, loved by all who knew her. Her teachers and schoolmates feel her loss sadly. The Wranch, Green and Coffman schools were dismissed Tuesday afternoon so the pupils and teachers could attend the funeral. The floral decorations were profuse and beautiful. The heartbroken family has the deepest sympathy of the vicinity and may God give them strength to pass through this sad ordeal.
