#2-27 Apr., 1904 - Blair Courier - Vesta D. (Cook) Hungate

Mrs. J. H. Hungate died at 2:30 p.m. last Wednesday at the Wise Memorial hospital in Omaha of cancer of the stomach. About ten days before an operation had been performed, but it was found that nothing could be done to save her life, and she waited patiently until the end came. The funeral was held at the family residence, 2104 Maple street, at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, under the auspices of the W.R.C. of which organization she was a devoted member. Vesta D. Cook was born at Grayson, Ky. in 1849, and in an early day moved with her parents onto a farm near California Junction, Ia. When Cuming City was flourishing Miss Cook taught school there and when Blair was founded in 1869 she moved down here with the town, where she met and married J. H. Hungate in 1870. They lived here for about 18 years and after spending one year in Denver, have lived ever since in Omaha. Besides her husband, two sons and five daughters, she leaves a mother, Mrs. Delinda Cook, aged 74 years, four sisters, one of whom is Mrs. A. P. Howes of this city, and three brothers. She was a bright, vivacious and capable woman who made friends wherever she went, and hence her death will leave a fountain of sorrow in many hearts.
