#1-9 Mar., 1904 - The Pilot - Catherine (Burwell) Ryan

Mrs. Jessie Ryan, who died the latter part of last week, was buried in the Rose Hill cemetery last Monday. Rev. Richards of the Baptist Church delivered the funeral oration, and his touching tribute to the dead was a remarkable one. It was one of the largest funerals in point of attendance of any that has taken place hereabouts for years. Mrs. Ryan is survived by her husband, Mr. Jesse Ryan, who is the grandson of William Lamb of Blair, and three children.

#2-10 Mar., 1904 - Blair Republican - Catherine (Burwell) Ryan

Died at the family residence near Orum on Saturday of last week of child-bed fever after an illness of 11 days, Catherine Burwell, wife of Jesse Ryan and mother of four small children, the youngest a babe and the oldest but five years old which renders the affliction of unusual sadness.

Deceased was born in Ohio 31 years ago and the only relative in this county is Mrs. R. Peterson, an aunt. Two brothers and a sister live in Ohio, and a cousin, Mrs. Margaret Good of Lincoln, attended the funeral which was from the Rose Hill church at 2 p.m. last Monday afternoon. There was a large attendance and Rev. S. W. Richards of Blair gave a comforting discourse. Interment was at the Rose Hill Cemetery. This is a severe bereavement for the young husband and family relatives, and the entire community sorrows with them.

10 Mar., 1904 - Blair Republican - Catherine (Burwell) Ryan

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Katherine Ryan was known to us Saturday evening. Sad indeed that a woman, young and in the prime of life should take her leave so soon from dear relatives and loving friends, leaving in the wake of death four dear children and a loving husband. Our feelings were touched with burning sympathy. May God rest with those in sorrow who must bear this sad experience, and may He comfort them that weep in sadness. Death makes us wonder because it comes unannounced. We think of the life as it was, lovely and fair, and those sweet memories of youthful days are like shadows on a beautiful, sunny day. With all its loveliness, it comes only for a moment, then is gone. It seems we cannot appreciate those present as we should, but when they are gone we miss them. So in this sad death we extend our deepest sympathy to those stricken relatives who mourn their demise.
