#2-11 Feb., 1904 - Blair Republican - Bertha Howe

The transition of Miss Bertha, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. George Howe, occurred at their home about 7 o’clock Monday evening of quick consumption. Bertha was born on the farm near Blair where she lived until two years ago when the family moved to Blair. Had she lived until the 5th of next May, she would have been eighteen years old. Two very sick spells, scarlet fever the first and then a bad attack of lung fever last spring from which she never recovered, seemed to wreck her health and the seeds of consumption were sown. Bertha went to school for several weeks before the holidays, being a member of the 10th and 11th grades. Although she had been in poor health for a long time, her sudden death was a shock to everyone. She was a merry hearted, pleasant girl, bubbling over with fun, kind and helpful and will be greatly missed by relatives and friends. Rev. Savidge of Omaha, an old friend of the family, delivered a comforting discourse. Beautiful flowers covered the casket - pallbearers were her schoolmates as follows: John Peebles, Wilfred Arndt, Wm. Davis, Glen Bigsby, Delbert Newton and Felix Beyer. She was laid to rest in Blair cemetery. The family has the deepest sympathy of many friends.
