MRS. DORA SUMNER DIES IN SLEEP

Mrs. Dora Sumner, who has been making her home with Mrs. Minnie Bates of Kennard, was found dead in her bed on Wednesday morning, having passed away during the night.

She would have been 89 years of age in November. Mrs. Sumner has been in failing health for a number of years. Surviving her is one son, Leon, who at this writing has not arrived in Kennard, and burial arrangements have not been made pending his arrival.

MRS. DORA SUMNER RITES FRIDAY

Dora E. Sumner was born November 21, 1862 at Winterset, Iowa and passed away in her sleep at Kennard, Nebraska October 10, 1951. Aged 88 years, 10 months and 19 days. Her early life was spent as a teacher in the Iowa schools.

On March 8, 1893 she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Sumner and to this union two sons were born. Leon L. of Grand Island, Nebraska and Howard F., who died in 1927.

At the age of 16 she became a member of the Christian Church and has been active in church work all her life. Since breaking her hip in 1942 she has been confined to her wheel chair, but up to the time of her death was quite cheerful and enjoyed average health. Besides numerous friends, she is survived by a son, Leon L. Sumner, and a brother, Leonard R. Moore of Winterset, Iowa.

Services were held Friday from the Methodist Church in Kennard with Campbell’s Mortuary in charge. She was buried beside her husband in the Blair cemetery.

WIDOW OF ARTHUR SUMNER HAD BEEN AN INVALID FOR NINE YEARS

Mrs. Dora Sumner, 88, long a resident of Kennard, died last Wednesday at Kennard.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Kennard Methodist Church with burial in Blair Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by Campbell Mortuary of Blair.

Mrs. Sumner, the widow of Arthur Sumner, is survived by one son, Leon L. Sumner, a disabled World War I veteran who has been residing at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Grand Island, and by a brother, Leonard Moore, of Winterset, Ia.

Mrs. Sumner’s early life was spent in Iowa as a teacher. She was born in Winterset and married Arthur Sumner in 1893. At 16, she became a member of the Christian Church, and had been an active church worker all her life. Since breaking her hip in 1942, she had been confined to a wheelchair.
