FARMER FOUND DEAD IN FIELD

Herbert Leslie Jones, familiarly known to his friends as “Pete” Jones passed away September 27, 1951, at the age of 59 years. Deceased was born on the farm where he spent most of his life and where he died.

He was married to Miss Blanche Wallace on June 10, 1914. To them three sons and one daughter were born, Herbert and Wallace of DeSoto; Robert of Oakland and Mrs. Lorraine Johnson of Blair. Besides his wife and children he is survived by nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Landers of Omaha; Martha Smith of Eatonville, Washington; and two brothers, Edgar of Emerson, Nebraska and Josiah of Chinook, Montana.

His death was most untimely. He was mending a fence and suddenly collapsed. His sons who were with him did all they could to revive him, but of no avail. The shock to the family and neighborhood was great and was indeed a tragedy.

Deceased was a home man and thoroughly enjoyed his family. He was a good farmer and led a prosperous life and in his neighborhood he will be missed as he was always ready to do his part.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 o’clock p.m. with Rev. Homer Dickerson giving the funeral discourse, and interment under the supervision of the Campbell Mortuary was made in the Blair cemetery. Thus another with ancestry dating back to pioneer days has departed this life leaving relatives and friends to mourn his memory.
