HARRY CUSTER RITES SEPT. 1st

Died at Blair Hospital August 30. Burial in Herman

Services for Harry Custer were held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Emmert in charge, burial in the Herman cemetery. Singers were Mrs. Clare Skinner and Mrs. Claude Yowell with Mrs. Ted Swanson, organist. Pallbearers were Ted Swanson, Chris Korshoj, Thomas Wakefield, Jr., Roy Hart, Fred Robertson and Kenneth Wachter.

Harry Emmanuel Custer was born at Harlan, Iowa November 5, 1872, and passed away at the Blair Hospital August 30, 1951. He was born of the old Dutch and French stock of the early colonial days. One branch of the family the DeRemers, fled from Holland and France to England and then to Americaa under religious persecution.

Mr. Custer was a lover of children, Boy Scout Worker and Woodcraft Work. He maintained his mental faculties until the end.

Harry was truly a self educated man. He graduated from the 8th grade and attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska for a few months. He was an ardent student of religion and astronomy.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge for forty six years and an officer at the time of his death. He united with the Baptist Church at the age of nineteen years and served as deacon the most of his fifty years of membership.

He leaves to mourn his passing a sister, Nellie of Herman and other relatives in Iowa besides many friends.

Some out of town friends who attended the funeral are Dr. Stanley Truhlsen of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Graff of Fremont and other friends from Pender and Bancroft.
