PETER J. NELSON OLD SETTLER, DIES

Following a lingering illness of nearly two years’ duration, Peter J. Nelson died at the Convalescent Home in Blair last Saturday morning.

He was born in Sweden March 1st, 1869 and with his parents came to this country in 1881. The family settled in Washington County and here he was educated and spent his entire life.

On October 10, 1889 he was married to Miss Carolyn Petersen, and to them nine children were born, five of whom are still living.

In 1932 his wife died, and in 1934 he was married to Mrs. Emma Wheatley, who survives him. Of the children, four sons and one daughter survive. The sons are James and Ted in California; Albert of Arlington, Nebr.; Fred of Bennington, Nebraska; and one daughter, Cora Mortensen of Omaha, and one stepdaughter Marjorie Marlow, also of Omaha. Also two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Caven of Pine Bluffs, Ark.; Mrs. Lillian Wilson of Omaha; and one brother, Harry Nelson of California; and one stepbrother, Frank Newton of Omaha. Nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Jorgensen officiating, and burial was made in the Blair cemetery.

Thus another old settler has gone. In his more active years Mr. Nelson was a farmer, but he moved to Blair several years ago on account of the health of his wife and he was living in Blair at the time of his death.
