FORMER BLAIRITE DIES OF STROKE

Winfield Rodman Remembered by Older Residents

Winfield Scott Rodman, formerly of Blair and a graduate of the Blair High School, class of ’99, died of a heart attack last Friday, April 13. At his death he was seventy one years of age.

He was born in Indiana and came with his parents to Blair when but a child. He received his early education in Blair, and after his graduation he went to Kimball, Nebraska where he entered the real estate business and later the banking business.

With his keen business foresight he amassed a fortune in lands and buildings. He was a good man for his town and backed every venture worthy of his support.

He was elected to the State Banking Board and served with rare ability and was held in high esteem by his colleagues.

Two years ago he retired from the banking business and feeling the weight of years he divided his land holdings among his four children, giving them approximately $100,000 a piece.

After retiring from the banking business he took to building houses as a hobby and spent his time that way.

Kimball will miss him as he was the mainspring of every move the town made, and recently he sponsored a fine hospital, and at his death his friends were asked not to send flowers but to send money to pay for the landscaping of the hospital grounds.

He leaves his wife and four children to mourn him. The children are Mrs. Kenneth Linn of Kimball; Mrs. Don Holdrege of San Angelo, Texas; and two sons, Chas. of Eugene, Oregon and W. S. Rodman, Jr. of Boise, Idaho.

Besides the immediate family, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jake Bross of Blair and Mrs. E. E. Lewton of Stanton, Nebraska and three brothers, James of Eugene, Oregon; Walter of Kimball; and Roland of Oklahoma City where he is president of the Anderson Prichard Oil Co.

Two years ago he was present at a class reunion in Blair and enjoyed visiting with his old classmates, and while here made a pleasant call at The Enterprise office.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m., and burial was made in the Kimball cemetery.
