BEN B. WEST RITES HELD LAST MONDAY

Veteran Of World War I. Businessman Of Herman

The funeral for Ben B. West was at the Legion hall in Herman Monday afternoon with Rev. Robert Wigert in charge. The singers were Mrs. Claude Yowell and Mrs. William Skinner with Mrs. Kermit Goll pianist. The pallbearers were Harry Brix of Tekamah, Wilbur Lowe of Blair, J. B. Jensen, Charles Brodersen, Mack Kroger and Dr. W. I. Nelson. Burial was in Herman cemetery.

Ben West was born in Herman December 21, 1891, son of James A. and Ellender West, and passed away February 7, 1951 at the Barnes Veterans Hospital, Vancouver, Washington.

He attended school and grew to manhood in Herman. He, with his brother, Jennings, operated a garage in Herman for twenty five years.

He was a veteran of World War I, charter member of Jackson Peck Legion Post 274 of Herman. He was also a member of the forty and eight.

He leaves to mourn his death four sisters, Ruby Rose and Opal Jansen of Omaha, Ellender Adams of Tekamah and Gail Drayer of Lincoln. Five brothers, Jesse of Los Angeles, Calif.; Everett of Oakland, Calif.; Glen of Berkley, Calif.; Fern of Tekamah; Jennings of Herman and other relatives and friends.

His parents, one brother, Elmon, and one sister, Lela Leach preceded him in death.

RITES FOR BEN WEST AT HERMAN

Services were held Monday at the Herman Legion hall for Ben West, 59, who died Wednesday in a Vancouver, Wash. veterans hospital.

West operated a garage at Herman for 25 years with his brother, Jennings. He left there four years ago and spent three of those years in the hospital.

West was a charter member of the Herman post of the American Legion and the 40 and 8. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. West and is survived by five brothers and four sisters.

Rev. Robert Wigert officiated at the services, and burial was at Herman cemetery.
