MRS. F. B. OLIVER DIES SEPT. 30th

Former Blair Woman Well Known In Educational Circles

Mrs. F. B. Oliver of Torrington, Connecticut passed peacefully away Saturday morning, September 30th. She had been an invalid for years and her death was not unexpected.

Jennie Elizabeth Rhoades was born in Harrison County, Iowa on November 17, 1870. At an early age she came with the family to Blair where she attended High School and graduated.

After graduation she taught for a time in the rural schools, and later took a college course. For eleven years she handled the primary work in the Blair schools, and later went to a professorship in primary work in the old Normal School at Fremont, Nebraska; but she preferred the public school work and taught for a number of years in the Fremont schools and then in the Lincoln schools.

She later married F. B. Oliver, who at that time was in the employ of the Omaha Bee. They made their home in Omaha until eight years ago when they went to Philadelphia and later to Torrington, Connecticut.

While residing in Omaha one son, Robert, was born and reared. While her hands were busy with home duties, she found time to do substitute work in the Benson schools, and she put in much time tutoring backward children from all parts of Omaha. Besides her teaching achievement she was vice president of the Benson Woman’s Club, and taught parliamentary law to club officials.

Eight years ago they moved to Philadelphia where they made their home with their son, who held a responsible position with the Proctor Electric Company. Both the husband and wife were in failing health, which necessitated the move. Later they moved to Torrington, Connecticut where she finally passed away.

The body, accompanied by the husband and son, was brought to Omaha, arriving Monday evening, and funeral rites and burial were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Crosby Kunold Funeral Home.

Thus ends the life of one who always was striving for perfection. Patient with her loved ones and looking toward the betterment of all, she made for herself a shrine which will always be remembered by those who love her.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, F. B. Oliver, and her son, Robert Oliver and family, besides several nieces and nephews and her brother, John A. Rhoades of Blair.
