RITES FOR JOHN W. NEWELL MONDAY

John W. Newell of Los Angeles, California, passed away Thursday, August 24th, in a hospital in that city. At his death he was seventy six years of age.

Deceased was a native of this county, having been born on a farm near Blair. He attended Blair High school and later college at Tabor. He was married to Miss Nellie Bradley, a schoolmate of his, on June 2, 1897. They had no children.

John farmed in this county for a long period of years and then moved to Blair, but still continued his farming activities. About fourteen years ago they moved to California where they stayed for a time, then moved back to Blair.

They made several trips to California before settling permanently there.

John was a member of the Episcopal church, of the I.O.O.F. Lodge and of the Masonic Lodge.

Mrs. Newell taught for a number of years in this county and is a woman of more than ordinary ability. The body was brought to Blair on Sunday and on Monday interment was made in the Blair cemetery under the supervision of the Bendorf funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church on Monday, August 28. Mrs. Newell arrived on Sunday and was present at the burial rites. She will remain in Blair and Lincoln for several weeks before returning to her home in California.

Besides the wife, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Lutie McKay of this city and several nieces and nephews.
