A. C. DEBEL IS VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK

Ex Soldier, Ex County Judge, Lawyer. Had Traveled Extensively

Anders C. Debel, known to Blair residents as Judge Debel, passed away at his home on West Colfax Street Saturday night. He had been a sufferer from a heart ailment for several years, but his last illness was brief.

Deceased was born on January 14, 1888 in Denmark. When a boy of fourteen years he came to America to the home of an aunt who lived in Worthington, Minnesota. Later he went to Beresford, South Dakota, and in 1907 he came to Blair entering Dana College where he studied for four years, and then entered the Nebraska State University where he graduated from the law school in 1917. One year of the time prior to this he spent in travel visiting Denmark and Australia.

On October 12, 1917 he was married to Miss Mary Christensen, and for seven months he practiced law in Blair and was then inducted into the army, being discharged nine months later. He returned to Blair and again entered the practice of law. He served one term as County Judge and upon his voluntary retirement from office, he again took up his professional work which he continued the remainder of his life.

About two and one half years ago he suffered a heart attack from which he never fully recovered, and last Saturday night the dread disease took its toll ending the life a a man who had always been useful to his community which he served. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, of the Masons and Eastern Star Lodges, and did his part willingly and efficiently.

Deceased leaves to mourn his passing the devoted and grief-stricken wife; two brothers, Niels Debel of St. Paul, Minnesota and Thomas Debel of North Queensland, Australia; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Colley of North Queensland, Australia; Mrs. Dora Holt and Mrs. James Jensen, both of Beresford, South Dakota.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock at the First Lutheran church with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
