SERVICES FRIDAY FOR JOE LOVE, VETERAN FARMER

Came To County In 1869. Was Successful Business Man

Joseph R. Love, 81 years of age, died Monday, March 5th, at the home of his son, Ross Love, who resides west of Blair. Deceased was born February 13, 1864 in Indiana and when five years of age his parents came to this county - in 1869 - just two years after Nebraska became a state.

His parents settled on a farm west of Blair where for 72 continuous years he lived, with the exception of a few years when he homesteaded in Kansas. He attended the Sutherland school when a sod house served as a school house. It was located just across the road west from the present structure.

On July 12, 1897 he was united in marriage to Miss Mattie Stewart, who was a teacher in Kennard. To them nine children were born, one of whom died in infancy. The wife died two years ago. The surviving children are four sons, Aubrey of Wall Lake, Iowa; Ross on the home farm; Stuart of Omaha; S/Sgt. Charles of Fort Lewis, Washington; and four daughters, Drusilla (Mrs. Harold French) of Blair; Gertrude (Mrs. Floyd Trumble) of Papillion; Mary (Mrs. Willard Gleeson) of Riverside, California; Elizabeth (Mrs. Clifford Montgomery) of Omaha. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Otto Allen of Omaha and a brother, George, of Blair.

Joe Love, as we all knew him, was an industrious and successful farmer. He accumulated a considerable fortune and he made it honestly. In his dealings with his fellow men his word was always as good as a bond. Those old friends who knew him have always looked upon him with the utmost faith and confidence as to his sterling worth.

Coming here in 1869, the year Blair was founded, he knew the hardships of those early days, but he was able to meet every obstacle and he leaves an enviable record which his children and his grandchildren will remember with pride.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 2 pm. at the Methodist church with Rev. Sidney L. McCaig officiating, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
