REV. WINGETT DIES HERE AT AGE 74

Jasper Melvin Wingett was born to Oliver Curtis and Mary Norris Wingett November 14, 1875 in Latham Township, Missouri. At the age of one year he moved with his parents to Minnesota where he resided until 1888 when they came to Nebraska.

He was married to Anna Mills on March 12, 1898. To this union three daughters and three sons were born. One son preceded him in death in infancy.

The children are Mrs. John C. Haslow, Gordon, Nebraska; Mrs. B. W. Hills, Blackwell, Oklahoma; Miss Myrtle Wingett, Hastings, Nebraska; Attorney Charles W. Wingett, Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Doctor Wendell T. Wingett, Pueblo, Colorado. His wife preceded him in death in October of 1943.

At the age of 14 years he united with the United Brethren Church. He was ordained a minister in the church in 1904 and served the Oakdale church from 1904 to 1907 at which time he transferred to the Methodist Church.

He served as pastor at the following Methodist churches in Nebraska: Richfield, 1907 to 1910; Loretto, 1910 to 1912 where he rebuilt the parsonage; Osmond, 1912 to 1915 where he rebuilt the church at the same time he served the McClellan pastorate where he built a new church; Gordon 1915 to 1923 where he built a new parsonage and made improvements on and finished paying for the church building.

He was appointed Executive Secretary of the West Nebraska Methodist Hospital at Scottsbluff in 1923. In 1929 he was appointed Superintendent of that hospital form which he retired in 1940.

In 1947 he moved to the Crowell Memorial Home at Blair, Nebraska where he has since resided. After a brief illness, he passed away on January 20, 1950.

Services were held at the Crowell Memorial Home on Saturday, January 21st, the Reverend Homer L. Dickerson officiating. Other services were held at the Read funeral Home at Scottsbluff, Nebraska January 23. Interment was in the Scottsbluff cemetery beside his wife.

He leaves to mourn his loss five children, five sisters, two brothers, ten grandchildren and four great grandsons.
