OLE JACOBSON, 93, SUCCUMBS STROKE TODAY

Old Settler Passes Away At His Home Here

Ole Jacobson, old settler and one of the best known and best loved characters in this county, passed away this Thursday morning at 1:10 o’clock at his home. The immediate cause of his death was a stroke at 6:30 last Saturday evening.

Deceased was born in Sweden Nov. 1, 1856, and came to America in 1880 when he was twenty four years of age. His decision to come to America was made by the flip of a coin, the choice being between this country and Australia.

On Oct. 22, 1883 he was married to Miss Mary Mortensen and they settled on a farm ten miles west of Blair. Later they moved to a farm in the Brewster school district where they lived until they moved to Blair on Feb. 11, 1915 where they have since resided.

The wife died on Nov. 8, 1946. Since that time the youngest daughter, Mrs. Alice Ziegler has kept house for him.

The surviving children are Mrs. Josephine Hitchcock of Kansas City, Kansas; Esther Jensen, Blair; Martin of Alliance, Neb.; Nettie Kingdon of Riverside, California; Cora Hurd of Belgrade, Neb.; Bertha Hooks and Alice Ziegler, both of Blair. Fifteen grandchildren also survive him.

After coming to this country he made farming his business. He was an inveterate worker, always busy at some work and his pleasant, genial disposition made him a general favorite.

In his younger days before coming to America he was a professional dancer and he danced before many of the crowned heads and nobility of Europe. Up to the time of his death he was always busy and since his birthday on Nov. 1st, he has made a trip to Alliance to visit his son and trips to various relatives including a cousin, Mrs. Margaret Carlsberg of Bancroft, who is 95 years of age and he found her busily crocheting and without glasses.

In 1910 he made a trip back to Sweden which he enjoyed very much, but his new home in America appealed to him most.

Words cannot express the feeling of the general public at the shock of his death. His was a life of unselfish devotion to those he loved. Every act, every emotion of his life was worthy of emulation and in his passing a good citizen, friend and neighbor has passed to the great beyond where there is no return.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church with the Rev. Dickerson officiating, and interment under the supervision of the Campbell Mortuary will be made in the Blair cemetery.
