Arthur H. Magill, son of Henry and Sarah Magill, was born in Omaha April 20, 1868, and departed this life in the Clarkson hospital in Omaha September 24, 1949 at the age of eighty one years and five months. He was the oldest of nine children, one brother died in infancy. The other seven brothers and sisters are still living.

When an infant he came with his parents by stage coach to Cuming City. He spent most of his life in Washington County. He was an early settler and truly a child of the prairie. Washington County was virgin, untilled soil and Mr. Magill grew and progressed with the county. Four of his younger brothers and sisters were attending school at New England at the time of the blizzard of ’88. Twice he and his father tried to force their way through the storm to get the children, but due to the fierceness of the storm they had to turn back.

He was married April 24, 1901 to Miss Hannah Andersen of the Spiker neighborhood and to this union seven children were born. Floyd, Raymond, Melvin, A. I., Marielle (Mrs. Harold Grothe), Harold and Geraldine (Mrs. Vernon Clements), all of Herman. He was a hard working man and a kind and loving father. His home and family were his pride. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Hannah, his seven children, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four sisters and three brothers. The sisters and brothers are Mrs. Ed Longwell of Bancroft; Mrs. Jennie Rogers of Fremont; Mrs. Sam Spiker of Denver; Mrs. Albert Hue of Herman; William and Alfred of Ponca, and Herman of Tekamah, a score of nieces and nephews and many friends.
