P. C. PETERSEN RITES SUNDAY

P. C. Petersen passed away in his home south and east of Blair on the 25th day of May, 1949.

He was born in Bronbjirg, Denmark on July 30, 1883. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jeremiason Petersen. Youngest of sixteen children. He came to the United States with his parents, one brother and three sisters in 1889. They settled in Waterloo, Ia., where he lived until 1915 when he moved his family to the farm near Blair, Nebr. where he spent the remainder of his life.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Ellmine Petersen; two daughters, Mrs. Elsa Swartz of Portland, Ore.; and Mrs. Nelsine McAllister of Sonora, Calif.; one son, Jens of Omaha; one sister, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Waterloo, Ia.; five grandchildren, John and Carol Swartz, Joanne McAllister, Norman and Barbara Petersen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Petersen has been under the doctor’s care for several years with heart trouble. He suffered a stroke Nov. 1 of last year, from which he recovered to continue his activities. On the 20th of May, 1949 he suffered several heart attacks. He passed away quietly at his home at noon on the 25th day of May, 1949.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church here.

He lived by the Golden Rule, treating others as he wished to be treated - strict in his code, and quick to protect his own rights and the rights of others. His mode of living soon led him to join the fraternal order of Odd Fellows, in which he was vitally interested and active from the date he joined the order.

He was initiated into the Independent Order of Odd Fellows on Sept. 23, 1908, becoming a member of Black Hawk Lodge No. 72 of Waterloo, Ia. On July 6, 1909 he advanced to the second branch of the order and on Jan. 18, 1910 he received the highest degree in the military branch of the order. He held all the offices in the various branches, served as deputy grand officer and retired with the rank of Captain in the Patriarch Militants. He received the Decoration of Chivalry at Mason City, Ia. in 1914. He transferred his membership in two branches to Blair on Dec. 30, 1920, leaving his membership in the Patriarch Militants in his original canton in Waterloo, Ia.

The funeral will be held at First Lutheran Church Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen giving the funeral oration, and interment under the supervision of the Bendorf Funeral Home will be made in the Blair Cemetery.
