Gifford L. Petersen, the victim of a very unusual accident involving a power saw, passed away in Dodge County Hospital in Fremont on April 1. Mr. Petersen had been severely cut about the abdomen when he was pushed into a buzz saw when a pile of wood tumbled down upon him. He was born on Mar. 12, 1911 in the Orum community, was baptized in the Danish Lutheran Church there and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1927. With the exception of 4 years spent in the service of his country, he spent his entire life in the home of his parents. For a period of three years he served in the European theater of operations and was discharged on Oct. 18, 1946.

Seven hundred persons were in attendance at the funeral service held in First Lutheran Church of this city Sunday afternoon, April 3rd. The body was laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery at Orum with military honors by a squad from Arlington. The Bendorf Funeral Home was in charge and Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiated.

Mr. Petersen is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Petersen of Orum, by a brother, Roy of Waco, Nebr., a sister, Mrs. R. Scheer of Arlington, by his fiancee, Miss Mildred Scheer of Fremont, who just two weeks previously had lost her father by death. Also surviving is an uncle, Mr. Peter Petersen who lived with the Chris Petersens, by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, nieces and nephews. All of these have the deepest sympathy of the community.
