MRS. A. W. STANLEY

Mrs. A. W. Stanley, who died on Turkey creek and was buried in our Ft. Calhoun (Nebraska) cemetery on April 1, 1910, was one of the finest Christian women we have ever met. Our first remembrance of her was years ago when, standing a few feet from her in a mixed assembly, we saw her put her arm around the neck of a motherless girl and heard her remark as a tear shone on her face, “How I wish I could mother every motherless girl in the state,” and no one who knew her would have any reason to doubt her statement.

It was impossible to find seats for the large congregation in the Presbyterian church. Her daughter’s classmates and teachers in the high school were present. Her pastor, Rev. Hillman, preached the sermon and there were banks of the most beautiful flowers. Clem Mortensen, Guy Slader, Mark Slader, two Miss Mortensens and Miss Bird Slader sang in the choir, with Miss Daisy Slader at the organ.

The pallbearers were Camille Saltzman, Gustav Nelson, Guy Slader and Mads Mortensen, and Henry Poole of Tekamah and W. Lonergan of Douglas county.

Among others present were Grandfather and Grandmother Steyer of Omaha, W. Steyer and family of Florence and Mrs. Elder Moore of Tekamah.

Mrs. Stanley was 49 years, 6 months and 9 days old. She leaves one married son in DeSoto township, three sons and one daughter at home with her husband, six brothers and one sister. For several months she has been much missed in church and Sunday school circles as well as by her numerous friends and neighbors.

#2-4 Apr., 1910 - Blair Democrat - Mrs. A. W. Stanley

The Presbyterian church was unable to seat all the people who attended the funeral of Mrs. A. W. Stanley last week. Her daughters, classmates and teachers in the high school attended in a body. The choir of the Coffman Sunday school sang the anthems and Rev. Mr. Hilkeman preached the sermon. Among those present from Omaha, Florence and Douglas county were Elder Steyer and wife, William Steyer and family and W. Lonergan; from Tekamah, Henry Poole and his sister, Mrs. Moore. There was an unusual display of flowers.
