MRS. C. B. SPRAGUE DEAD

Mrs. C. B. Sprague, wife of the former editor of The Blair Republican, passed peacefully into the spirit life at 11 o’clock Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Cheeley.

Her other daughter, Mrs. V. O. Johnson and husband, arrived from Colorado Springs at 7 o’clock in time to see her before death came, but she was too near the borderland of that “far country” to recognize them with eyes of flesh.

The funeral will be held at the Cheeley home at 2:30 today, and interment made in the Blair cemetery by the side of her late husband, whose death occurred Feb. 14, 1909, and her son, Charles, who died some twelve years ago. One daughter, Edith, first wife of H. Shields, has long been resting in that “silent city of the dead”.

Miss Sybil Meservey was born in Appleton, Me. Feb. 11, 1840, the youngest of six children, among whom were H. E. Meservey, late of this place, Elizabeth, who made her home with H. E. for many years, and O. Meservey of Fremont.

She was married to Mr. C. B. Sprague in 1864 at Haverhill, Mass., and came with him to the territory of Nebraska in 1866, residing on a farm in the Fontanelle neighborhood until 1881 when they moved to this city and Mr. Sprague went into the newspaper business.

In 1905 they sold the paper on account of Mr. Sprague’s failing health and went to live with their daughter, Mrs. V. O. Johnson at Pawnee, Okla. She came to live with Mrs. Cheeley last July and failed gradually until the final dissolution came Monday night.

Mrs. Sprague was of a gentle, retiring nature, and while she did not make many acquaintances, she was a loyal and loving friend to those she knew. Her devotion to her family was supreme and sublime, and her helpful hands never ceased to minister to their every want and wish as long as she was able, for they were prompted by a heart that was all love.

God alone knows how near the ideal of the Master, who first taught the supremacy of love, such wives and such mothers come, and thus reach the pinnacle of true greatness, in love to lay down our lives for others.

MRS. C. B. SPRAGUE DEAD

Mrs. C. B. Sprague, who has been making her home with daughter, Mrs. W. B. Cheeley, in this city since returning from Oklahoma last summer, died Monday evening and was buried Wednesday afternoon.

Sibyl Meservey was born in Appleton, Maine February 11, 1840, and married to Chester B. Sprague at Haverhill, Mass. in 1864. They moved to Washington county in 1866, and settled on a farm near Fontanelle where they continued to reside until 1881 when Mr. Sprague bought the old Blair Times. They continued to make Blair their home until 1905 when they moved to Oklahoma where Mr. Sprague died February 14, 1909.

Mrs. Sprague was the mother of four children, Edith and Charles preceding her to the Great Beyond, Mrs. Victor O. Johnson and Mrs. W. R. Cheeley being the remaining members of the family. Mrs. Sprague was the youngest member of a family of six and was the last to depart this life.

Mrs. Sprague’s health has been very poorly ever since the death of her son, Charles, some twelve years ago, at which time she suffered a stroke of paralysis, and since the death of her husband she has failed rapidly, and when she came up here from Oklahoma to make her home with her daughter, her relatives and friends felt satisfied that it would be only a short time until she would follow her departed ones.
