#1-3 Nov., 1909 - The Pilot - Otis Scott McQuarrie

The end finally came for Otis McQuarrie at 5 o’clock this morning after a brave struggle with the dreaded disease tuberculosis for about a year and a half. He went to Colorado in June, 1908, and seemed to improve at times, but was gradually failing and came back home last August with all hope of recovery gone. Everything possible to be done was done for him, and every possible care and attention given him even when the fight for life was hopeless. For the past three or four days he has been unconscious and death has been hourly expected. The funeral will be held at 3:30 tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at the house, Rev. C. P. Lang officiating. Otis was born in this city October 10, 1881, and was married to Miss Minnie Day November 25, 1903. Besides the wife he leaves one daughter, Dorothy, four years of age. Also his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. McQuarrie, one brother, George and three sisters, May, Miriam and Jeanette. The entire community join in sympathy with the bereaved wife and family.

OTIS McQUARRIE DIES

After a struggle of many months with tuberculosis, death claimed Otis McQuarrie last Wednesday morning. Nearly two years ago Otis suffered an attack of grip which left his lungs in such a shape that consumption developed a short time after.

Failing to receive any benefit from remedies prescribed here and continuing to get worse, he was taken to Denver in the hope that the change in climate would restore him to rugged health. For a time after reaching the higher and rarer air, Mr. McQuarrie gained some, but after staying out there over a year he was brought home in such a weak and emaciated condition that no hopes were entertained for his recovery. Since arriving here last August his condition grew gradually worse until death came to relieve him of his suffering.

Otis was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John McQuarrie, and was born in this city October 10, 1881, and was married to Miss Minnie Day the latter pat of November, 1903. Besides his parents and sisters and a brother, he leaves a wife and one child, Dorothy, who is four years old.

The funeral was held at the home Thursday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. Lang of the M. E. church, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
