#1-3 Nov., 1909 - The Pilot - Jeanette (Lease) Stevens

Mrs. L. O. Stevens died at the Blair Hospital at about 11 o’clock Sunday night, having been sick for three days. She had been at the hospital for a year or more owing to her advanced age and weakened mental condition, but since here daughter, Mrs. J. B. Adams, with whom she had made her home in recent years had moved to Omaha, she had fitted up a room and employed a nurse preparatory to taking her down there. Death came suddenly to spoil these plans and instead the frail old body was taken to the old home in Earlville, Ia., and laid beside that of her husband, whose death occurred in this city about six years ago. The funeral was held at the Congregational church at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, Rev. A. Maurice Abbott officiating. Miss Jeanettre Lease was born in Johnston, Vt. March 14th, 1832, and was therefore past 76 years of age at the time of her death She was married to Levi O. Stevens at Rock Island, Ill. Sept. 15th, 1863, and lived for a time at Dubuque, Ia. Later they moved on a farm near Earlville, Ia., which was their home for over forty years. They then moved to Grinnell and some six years ago, on account of failing health, they came to Blair to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. J. B. Adams. Of this union eight children were born, one son dying in infancy and the oldest daughter in 1885. Four sons, J. L. Stevens of Stockton, Kans.; Chas. O. of Washington, D.C.; T. F. of Creston, Neb.; and Phillip H. of Manilla, P.I.; and two daughters, Mrs. E. B. Kenyon of Los Angeles and Mrs. J. B. Adams, now of Omaha, survive her. Only J.L. and T.F. Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. Adams were present for the funeral.
