#1-27 Oct., 1909 - The Pilot - Louis Clasen

Word was received here Friday of the death of Louis Clasen of Ft. Calhoun, a former resident of this city, of appendicitis. The funeral was held Sunday at the family residence, Rev. Jacob Hauk of Omaha officiating. A large number of friends were present to pay their last respects to the dead, including many from this city. He was born in Mecklenburg, Germany September 2, 1857 and was married in this city June 21, 1883. Mrs. Stanley Pierce, now of Long Pine, is a daughter, and there are six other children living.

Louis Clasen died at his home in Calhoun last Thursday night as a result of an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Classen was operated on the previous Sunday, but his condition was so bad that no hopes were held out for his recovery. The funeral was held last Sunday and was attended by the Blair Verein, the Knights of Pythias and Woodmen lodges. Deceased was about fifty years old, and had conducted a blacksmith shop and implement business in Calhoun for a number of years. He was popular and well liked by all who knew him, and his funeral was one of the largest ever held in the county.

Among the members of the German Verein who attended the funeral of the late Louis Classen at Calhoun last Sunday were the following: Peter Nohrenberg, John Rahlfs, Peter Jansen, Henry Grimm, Gus Rathmann, Gus Scheffler, Chris Rathman, Peter Reeh, Henry Bruse, Ed Matthiessen, August Rathmann, Peter Siert, F. H. Matthiessen, Julius Kegler, Nels Truhlsen, B. Arndt, H. L. Struve, J. H. Struve, Claus Mencke, William Ladwig, Victor Wolf, John Kuhr, Hans Lamp, Peter Soll, Jacob Rahlfs, August Bruse and John Peterson.
