#1-22 Sept., 1909 - The Pilot - Alfred Orlando Pound

A. O. Pound died very suddenly at about 8:30 yesterday morning. He had been suffering from anemia for almost a year past and was gradually growing weaker, having been in bed most of the time for about two weeks. He had slept well Monday night, but awoke about 8 o’clock struggling for breath. Dr. Langstaff was called and found his heart fluttering and in a very weak condition. Stimulants were administered, but he sank gradually and died in about thirty minutes. The funeral is to be held at the family residence at 4 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. Marsh officiating. Albert Orlando Pound was born near Rochester, N.Y. August 9th, 1844, and came west to Iowa when a young man, settling near Tipton. He was married there to Miss Alice M. Hibben in November, 1866 and of this union five children survive him, Mrs. E. F. Cook, Mrs. W. J. Cook and Mrs. D. Z. Mummert of this city, Mrs. J. W. Wright of Omaha and Mrs. F. L. Newton of York, Neb. In February, 1882 they moved to Blair and in February, 1889 Mrs. Pound died. In November, 1890 Mr. Pound was married to Miss Mattie Stockton, and of this union two children survive, Miss Florence and Master Kenneth. Mr. Pound was a good businessman, and had acquired a competence that enabled him to live very comfortably in his beautiful home on Grant street he had taken great pleasure in fixing up to suit his tastes. He was a member of the county board for a number of years, also a member of the Masonic lodge. He will be greatly missed, not only in his home in which he took great delight, but by all who knew him in the business and social life of the community.

O. A. POUND DIES SUDDENLY

A. O. Pound, an old and highly respected resident of this city, died very suddenly at his home Tuesday morning after an illness extending over a period of several months, although being of such a nature that he was not confined to his bed much of the time. For several days prior to his death he was feeling much better, and he had great hopes of being able to get out again, but his condition took a turn for the worse Saturday morning, since which time physicians gave the family no hope of his recovery.

Deceased was born in New York state August 9, 1844 and moved to Blair from Cedar county, Iowa in 1882, and had been more or less prominent in the affairs of the city and county ever since. Shortly after coming here he entered the furniture business, but disposed of this a number of years ago. He was a member of the Masonic lodge of this city.

He is survived by a wife and six daughters and one son, the children being Mrs. E. F. Cook, Mrs. W. J. Cook, Mrs. D. Z. Mummert of this city; Mrs. J. H. Wright of Omaha and Mrs. F. L. Newton of York; and Florence and Kenneth.

The funeral will be held from the late residence Thursday afternoon, September 23rd, at 4 o’clock, and interment made in Blair cemetery.
