DIES SUDDENLY

The announcement of the death of Wm. Wilkins, which occurred last Thursday afternoon, was very much of a surprise to our people as but a very few of them knew he had been sick.

Mr. Wilkins was taken sick a week ago Monday with neuralgia of the heart and from the time the disease set in grew rapidly worse and it seems that nothing could be done for him. The funeral was held from the Christian church in Blair last Sunday afternoon, Rev. F. Grant Hamm of Exeter, Nebr. officiating. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.

Deceased was born in Addison, Pa. June 2, 1843, and came to Washington county in 1870, and took up a homestead. In 1873 he was married to Sarah J. Allen in this city. Twelve children were born to this union, ten of whom, besides the wife and mother, are left to mourn his sudden death.

Mr. Wilkins was one of Washington county’s substantial farmers, although for the past number of years his sons have been attending to the active duties on the farms. He was a man of strong likes and dislikes, well read on the leading topics of the day, a good listener and a good debater on political topics. He was well liked by all who knew him, and these friends sorrow with the family in their bereavement.
