Carl R. Lauritsen, 95 Served in the South Pacific in WWII

Kennard native Carl R. Lauritsen died July 17, 2010, in Santa Barbara, Calif. Services were July 21 at the Welch-Ryce-Haider Chapel in Santa Barbara.

Carl Richard Lauritsen was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Kennard. He was raised in Kennard and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in law.

He was a World War II veteran, and served in the South Pacific before moving to south Texas, where he farmed and raised his family. In the mid-1960s he moved to Santa Barbara, where he worked for Santa Barbara County.

He was active in the Santa Barbara Historical Arms Society, the Danish Brotherhood, and the Winchester Gun Club.

He is survived by his children, Martin, Janet, Glen, Wayne, John and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alma.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Society.
