#1-14 Nov., 1906 - Blair Courier - Melvin R. Gundy

The sad news was received here Friday evening that M. R. Gundy had been killed by a fall of seventy five feet from the top of the Nye-Schneider-Fowler Company’s new elevator in Omaha. Almost every bone in his body was broken and death resulted in a few minutes after the terrible accident occurred. The body was brought up here Saturday morning, and the funeral held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon from his home on east Colfax street. Rev. J. G. Shick officiated and six of his fellow ushers at the recent tabernacle meetings acted as pallbearers. Mr. Gundy was born at Ritchie, Ill. Jan. 10, 1861 and at the age of nineteen went to Marion, Ia. He lived there for five years and then came to this state. He was married to Miss L. Eva Mason of this city on June 8th, 1887. Mr. Gundy was an honest, hard working man, a carpenter by trade, and a few years ago bought himself a home in this city, which he had about half paid for on the installment plan. Mrs. Gundy has been in poor health for some time which makes the accident an unusually sad one. Besides the wife, Mr. Gundy leaves one sister and three brothers to mourn his sudden departure from the land of the living “to that bourne from which no traveler ever returns”.
