#1-20 June, 1904 - The Pilot - James S. Stewart (another obituary lists his name as James “H” Stewart)

Last Friday afternoon death entered the home of J. S. Stewart and took from them Mr. Stewart. Last March and April Mr. Stewart complained of not feeling well and the forepart of April was confined to the house where he has since remained till death relieved him of his suffering. Mr. Stewart was sixty eight years of age. He was born in New York and at an early age moved to Iowa. Some twenty five years ago he moved to Nebraska where he has since resided. His wife was born in Kentucky and saw slavery till she was about sixteen when she and her sister and mother were aided to escape into northern territory. Mr. Stewart was a man whom The Pilot never heard a word against his character. He always attended to his own business and always had a good word for his neighbors. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the United Brethren church, at three o’clock. Besides his wife, Mr. Stewart leaves five children, Laura, now Mrs. Jones of Clarinda, Iowa; Misses Anna and Mammie and Will of Deadwood and Alfonso at home. Death resulted from Bright’s Disease and other complications.

#2-22 June, 1904 - Blair Courier - James Stewart

At his home in Blair, Neb. on Saturday, June 18, at 2:45 p.m. Mr. James Stewart died of Bright’s disease. He was 63 years old. The deceased was born and raised in the state of New York. He came from there to Page County, Iowa where he met Miss Sarah Harris who became his wife. To them were born five children, all of whom are living. About 24 years ago they came to Blair, Neb. where they have since resided. Mr. Stewart was converted at his own home several years ago, and during his recent illness, he renewed his covenant with God. He said to members of his family and friends, I am ready to go, and asked them all to meet him in heaven. He had been sick for about six weeks when on Saturday last he passed away. He was a kind father and a good husband. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. B. Priest at the U.B. Church on Monday at 3 p.m., June 20th, where many friends came to pay their respect to the departed and comfort the living.
