3 Feb., 1904 - The Pilot - Joab Souder The death of Joab Souder occurred at his home near Herman at 7 o’clock Saturday, Jan. 30. Mr. Souder was born March 7, 1834 in Washington county, Indiana. On May 16, 1854 he was married to Miss Ellen Turner of Washington county, Indiana. By this union were born four sons and seven daughters of which three sons and five daughters survive him: J. N. Souder at Moorefield, Nebr.; H. S. Souder at Beatrice; E. F. Souder at Tyson; Mrs. Sullivan at Ellis; Mrs. Brunton at Herman; Mrs. Roberts at Foster; and Mrs. Boss and Mrs. Bigford at Blair. In 1863 he united with the Christian church in which he was a steadfast believer. His first wife died Jan. 5, 1875, and the following year he removed to Nebraska. He was united in a second marriage to Miss Ellen May of Martinsburg, Ind. on Feb. 21, 1883, with whom he has lived happily and contented up to his death. By this union was born one daughter, who lived but three months. Mr. Souder had been afflicted for a number of years and had been failing rapidly for some time. The death of Joab Souder occurred at his home near Herman at 7 o’clock Saturday morning, Jan. 30, and the funeral was held on Monday afternoon, Rev. Motter of Kennard officiating. He was born March 7, 1834 in Wash. Co., Ind., and was married to Miss Ellen Turner May 16, 1854. Of this union eleven children were born, of whom five daughters and three sons survive him: E. F., who lives at Tyson; H. S. at Beatrice; J. M. at Moorfield; Mrs. Roberts at Foster; Mrs. Brunton at Herman; Mrs. Sullivan at Ellis; and Mrs. Boss and Mrs. Bigford in this city. His wife died in 1874, and the following year he came to this state. On Feb. 21, 1883 he married Miss Ellen May of Martinsburg, Ind. and their only child died in infancy.
