AVERY L. JASPERSEN, 78

Services for Avery L. Jaspersen, 78 of West Point, Nebraska who died November 27, 1994 at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point will be Thursday, December 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. Burial will be at the Oakland, Nebraska Cemetery.

Avery L. Jaspersen was born to Lars and Clara Hansen Jaspersen on a farm south of Blair November 30, 1915. He attended Long Creek School and graduated from Blair High School in the Class of 1933. He lost his left hand in a farm accident in 1935.

He attended the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture on a Union Pacific 4-H Scholarship. He was active in 4-H with his primary project being Hampshire hogs and Guernsey dairy cattle. He was the king of the Fremont Fair in 1936 and was a delegate to National 4-H congress in Washington, D.C. that same year.

He married Dorothy E. Voss June 2, 1937. They lived in Washington County for three years before moving to Tekamah. they moved to the Oakland area in 1945.

They retired from farming and moved to West Point in 1976. There he became instrumental in the development, construction and operation of the Cuming County Rural Water District, serving the district until 1985.

He was involved in a variety of civic activities, most notably the St. Joseph's Retirement Center Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Armand Matthews of Weatherly Lake, Missouri; Judy and Don Robertson of Columbus, Nebraska and Jena and Rudi Naegle of Ulm, Germany and a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Rosemary Jaspersen of Oakland, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; a brother, Lyle of West Point; a sister, Irene Lorsch of Kennard; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
