#1-10 Oct., 1901 - Blair Courier - L. D. Service

L. D. Service died at the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Service, at 9 o’clock last Friday evening of consumption. He had been failing for about two years, but had not been confined to his bed a single day, and on Friday morning got up and dressed himself and sat by the kitchen stove most of the day. He knew the end was not far off, but was patient in suffering to the last. Rev. George Williams baptized him the day before, and he felt prepared to go. The release came at about 9 o’clock in the evening after the last “good byes” were said. Rev. H. S. Vincent conducted the funeral services at the house Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, burial taking place in the Blair cemetery. Mr. Service was the third son and was born March 8th, 1868 in VanBuren county, Michigan. Three sisters before him died of this dreadful disease, and one of congestion of the brain. The children now living are George and John of this city, Mrs. Chas. Romans of Cedar Bluffs and Mrs. T. F. Barnett of Omaha, all of whom were here for the funeral service.
