7 Feb., 1901 - Blair Courier - Anna Kruger

Miss Anna Kruger died in Fremont Saturday night from the effects of burns received while working at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobs, five miles northwest of Arlington. The accident occurred early last week. Miss Kruger is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kruger, residents of Arlington, but lived at the home of Mr, Jacobs, being employed to do housework there. According to the story, Miss Kruger arose early Tuesday morning before any other members of the household were about. She had dressed herself and was ready to start about her work. In going from one place to another, she was carrying a lamp with her. The wick in this had burned down low, and the lighted end was almost to the kerosene. She did not notice this. Finally the lodged end dropped entirely through the burner into the kerosene. An explosion followed immediately. Miss Kruger was frightfully burned about the upper part of the body, especially under the arms. She called for help, and Mr. Jacobs ran to where she was and threw a heavy coat about her to extinguish the flames. He also threw a bucket of water on her. Her injuries were carefully examines, and it was thought best to take her to Fremont for treatment. In spite of the efforts which were put forth in her behalf, she died Saturday evening as stated.
