OBITUARY

James Monroe Parker was born at Circleville, Ohio August 27, 1825, and came to Omaha, Neb. 1863. In 1870 he removed to Washington county, Neb. where he has since resided. He was the first mayor of the village of Kennard, and always an active worker in advancing the best interests of the community. Mr. Parker was possessed of an upright character and was ever a strong advocate of what he believed to be right. His influence was on the side of temperance, and for many years he was a consistent member of the Christian church. He was a retired farmer and was prominent in the Masonic order of which he had been an active member for sixty five years. There are left to mourn, his devoted wife, a sister, Mrs. Rees of Columbus, Ohio; for daughters, Mrs. N. Fodrea of Lincoln; Mrs. Otto R. Shaffer of Pine Bluff, Ark.; Mrs. A. R. Graham of Chicago; and Mrs. James Allan of Omaha; two sons, Frank E. Parker of Kennard and Kirby R. Parker of Benson, Neb.; a number of grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday from the family residence, and was very largely attended, although the weather was threatening. Rev. John Sayles of Blair gave a short address after which the Masons took charge and performed their burial ceremony and accompanied the remains to the Blair cemetery for interment.

Bright the setting of the sun
Peaceful they rest; they work is done.
Ripe for the harvest, life sweetly closes;
Calm and serene, the sleeper reposes.
Note: Since the death date was not given, the newspaper date was used.
